Air Tight Testing

Poor levels of airtightness in buildings inflate energy costs, affect the comfort of occupants and are a primary contributor to increased emissions of carbon dioxide. ITS can assess the thermal efficiency of your building by using airtightness testing and thermography to pinpoint air leakage and define areas for remedial action.

ITS are registered by the British Institute of Non Destructive Testing (BINDT) to perform airtightness testing on new dwellings (Registered Tester No. 14).

Approved testers since 2006, ITS have tested thousands of properties, and in the process gained a wealth of experience in the practicalities of testing, and the diagnosis of building faults.

ITS airtightness tests meet the requirements of the latest Building Regulations Approved Documents, and are carried out to BINDT accredited standards in accordance with the ATTMA Technical Standard for "Measuring Air Permeability of Building Envelopes".

To start the process, all we require is a set of drawings from which to calculate the building envelope, confirmation of the design air permeability rate and whether or not accredited construction details have been used. To save time, these can often be provided on site on the day of the test.

Working closely with site management, we can provide advice on the number of units required to be tested, undertake envelope calculation and temporary sealing, provide a pre-test checklist, through to the issue of a test certificate.

Additionally, ITS can also undertake air leakage audits to identify air leakage paths - from a simple smoke pencil test, to a full thermographic survey if required.
